I've been building software for years. So I did what anyone in my position would have done: I built her a small tool. A register, a calendar, client records. Nothing more, just what she needed, exactly the way she worked.
The software grew with the salon
That's where something interesting happened. Because the tool was built for one person, every friction point showed up immediately. A confusing screen? I heard about it that same evening. One step too many to ring up a sale? Fixed the following week.

The realization
One day it hit me: this esthetician is not a special case. Quebec and Canada are home to thousands of estheticians, hairstylists and massage therapists, solo or in small salons, living exactly the same calculator evenings.
And the tools available to them almost all come from somewhere else: American software billed in US dollars, designed for other tax systems, often English-only, with data hosted who knows where. Forcing GST and QST into software that doesn't know they exist is just paperwork in disguise.
So we made a decision: rebuild her tool, properly, for everyone. In French and in English. With Canadian taxes calculated correctly by province. With data hosted exclusively in Canada, compliant with Quebec's Law 25. With prices in Canadian dollars, no exchange rate surprises.
